The Swedes have landed!

The trip over the atlantic was fairly uneventful, with bus, ferry, train and flight all leaving on time, with no problems along their routes. We walked over to the AVIS rental car lot, expecting to pick up the Chrysler 300 that I had reserved 4 months ago. We were joking that they would offer a far smaller car for us just because the chrysler wouldn't be available. When we reached the counter and the lady started off by saying "we have a Volvo S60 for you guys", we weren't laughing anymore. For those of you that aren't carnerds like 50% of this travel group, I can inform you that an S60 is so tiny that I wouldn't fit in the backseat with one of my travel buddies driving unless I cut of my legs! I asked for a different car, and my friends finally caught up on the service minded nature of Americans that I love so much, that I had talked so much about. We got to sit in and try out 3 different cars while the lady behind the counter kept searching for a car suitable for 4 guys with an average height above 190cm (6'3"). We ended up driving away with a Chrysler 300 after all!

We pulled up at our hotel in Jersey City, New Jersey, checked in and quickly walked over to the train station to reach Manhattan.
Our little hotel is nice, but Jersey City isn't! Not the cleanest place >_<

A smelly, cold (AC !!) and crowded train ride later, we finally arrived at Manhattan! We took a quick look around, went hunting for food and found an Australian place called Pie Face where I stuffed my face with pie! After a day of travelling, it was nice to get some proper food.

After having some pie, Dan and Tomasz pointed out that they needed new shoes for all the running and exercising they were planning to do on this trip. Pontus and myself had been warned about their need for hitting the gym on a regular basis. I responded by making sure that every hotel I reserved for us had a gym, Pontus on the other hand had a slightly different response:

"Going to the States to get fit is like travelling to North Korea to learn about democracy"

We found a Foot Locker and  the gymboys bought a  pair of shoes each, and after that, it was time to go back to Jersey for a good nights sleep after being awake for 24h. All in all, a great start to a fantastic trip!
